About This Place

Welcome to Chez Friloux 1933, a gem nestled in the heart of Montrouge at 90 Av. de la Republique, France. This restaurant captures the essence of a traditional bistro while infusing it with a modern twist. Renowned for its expertly wood-smoked meats and fish, it provides an inviting atmosphere perfect for a family outing or a casual dinner with friends.

One of the standout features at Chez Friloux is the barbecue area, prominently set within the dining space. This clever design not only enhances the ambiance but also allows diners to enjoy a theatrical cooking experience. Patrons rave about the 7-hour cooked lamb—a dish so irresistible that it has garnered nearly cult-like acclaim among the loyal customers. Imagine savoring meat that practically melts in your mouth, enriched by a pepper sauce that guests describe as "life-changing." The menu offers an exhaustive selection, catering to meat lovers and adventurous eaters alike, making every visit a unique culinary journey.

Of course, the restaurant is not without its quirks. As noted by some diners, while the food excels, the service might occasionally miss the mark. Guests have experienced a mixed bag in terms of staff interaction—from efficient service to a notable lack of friendliness. However, in the world of Parisian dining, it appears that such experiences are not uncommon.

The flavors at Chez Friloux, however, make it easy to overlook minor service hiccups. Dishes like the beef tartar and tuna tartar delight the palate, while sides like the ever-popular green beans have left many feeling impressed and satisfied. Their daily menu further adds to the appeal, ensuring freshness and variety with every visit. Beyond the food, the cute terrace provides an ideal spot for people-watching, wrapping diners in the vibrant energy of the neighborhood.

Yet, it’s important to be mindful of your dining experience. Some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with the cleaning habits of the staff as closing time approaches, which can create an unwelcome atmosphere. Nevertheless, with such a strong menu and lovely settings, it’s clear that Chez Friloux 1933 has carved a niche in the bustling dining scene of Montrouge. With delicious flavors and a cozy vibe, this bistro is well worth a visit—just perhaps, plan to stay a little longer before the mop comes out!

Bistro that offers delicious smoked meat on the grill and nice simple sides. Having the barbecue area in the dining area is a nice touch. Decent prices.

The service is bad, but no worse than elsewhere in Paris. The menu is good, with lots of meaty options. The ‘7- hour cooked lamb’ is worth dying for’. The pepper sauce they serve with the steak is the best I have ever had. It is worth asking for some sauce to dip your bread in; it will change your life! The green beans... again... amazing! Compliments to the chef! Coming from South Africa, the steak just don’t compare and the quality of the meat is not the same. Even though you ask for ‘well-done’ you still get a piece of meat that is slightly tanned on the outside. Only one waitress understood English, but she left now. For the rest.... just point at the menu and pray.:) The restaurant is family friendly. A great evening out!

This spot stands out by its wood smoked meat and fish. Great settings in a lively and busy restaurant. Menu is exhaustive and a daily menu is offered. While the serving staff was efficient, a little smile would not have hurt -or at least pretending that it was a good day at work. I would definitely recommend to avoid sitting next to the door locked out of service, except if you fancy cold air during your meal (that only applies during cold season).

Really good neighborhood restaurant. We had beef tartar, tuna tartar and lard français. Delicious! Cute terrace good for people watching.

We went yesterday was really good, I wanted a Cesar salad and they didn’t had it, also my friends didn’t even finish dessert and they were already cleaning with the mop and had a really strong smelI know they close at 22h but they started early because we were in a part of the restaurant just with us so they started before the closing time, my friends they didn’t even finish eating, no time to finish neither the lady was cleaning and pushing to much to leave before the time of closing, they didn’t even finish the wine we bought … bref I’m not coming back everything was ok until they ate dessert with the cleaning products smell which is sad because the food is good

It was actually a good restaurant. Suitable for a family night out. Grilled steaks on wood fire. Good service. Very nice setting. It's only open from Thursday to sunday. Prices are reasonable.

The place is crowded at all times, but they try to serve as quickly as possible. Very popular for group dining. This is one of the best places to go if you want to try out some hard core french meaty cousins. It offers you some weird dishes if you are really on to it. I happen to find here the best grilled Tuna dish. I had to specifically request them to grill it more though.
